Coordinator of Faith Formation Grades 1–5 & Church Time

REPORTS TO: Director of Sacraments and Discipleship
STATUS: Non-contract/part time
WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 19 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY: The person in this role must be a Christ-centered team player who can lead the children of our parish to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. The coordinator administers (designs, develops, directs, and evaluates) a total parish religious education program and provides leadership to assist the parish community in building a solid foundation for child and adult spirituality, Christian living, and outreach. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, develop, and promote quality catechesis for 1–5 that instills a love for Jesus Christ, a learning about Him and the Catholic Church. 

  • Develop engaging and timely lesson plans for catechists to implement in their classrooms. 

  • Implement yearly Safe Environment lessons for grades 1-5.   

  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and recognition of catechists/volunteers. 

  • Assist with the registration process for Faith Formation and Totus Tuus. 

  • Collaborate to develop family intergenerational faith formation opportunities for all parents. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute yearly (summer) parish Totus Tuus program. 

  • Oversee/coordinate Sunday Church time program.  

  • Foster the Christian values of justice, peace, and service.  

  • Evaluate and procure necessary resource materials.  

  • Encourage the parents’ role as primary educators of their children.  

  • Assess student growth and communicate progress to parents/guardians.  

  • Develop disciplinary procedures based on policies that are consistent with justice and charity.  

  • Maintain a good relationship with St. John the Baptist school staff.  

  • Build trust and understanding with the children of the parish. 

  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of First Sacraments to oversee the registration and implementation of the parish preparation programs for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist for children and their families who are part of the parish Faith Formation program and St. John the Baptist School. 

  • Work with the faith formation team to ensure that parish and diocesan procedures are followed regarding the directives for parish faith formation programs. 

  • Ensure sacramental preparation materials for parents and students are ordered and received. 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Sacraments and Discipleship to address the overall goals, objectives, and direction of the faith formation program, especially for grades K-5. 

  • Serve as the liaison with the diocesan offices of evangelization and faith formation as to their programs, services, and resources relating to youth.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA in Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, related field, or equivalent experience preferred. 

  • 2 years of religious education experience in a parish preferred.  

  • Understanding of catechetical processes as they pertain to children.  

  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be comfortable speaking in large and small group settings to both adults and children. 

  • Proven ability in developing a vision and creating initiatives designed to meet the needs of the parish culture that are consistent with our mission including methods to assess the success of the programs and offerings. 

  • Understanding of catechetical processes as they pertain to children. 

  • Must be a practicing Catholic; a member in good standing of a Catholic parish within the Diocese of Green Bay; single, ordained, a professed religious, or in a sacramental marriage; and have a strong faith commitment, dedicated to Gospel values and living a life of prayer and service.
