God calls; we respond.
Jesus invites; we follow.

What is Adult Faith Formation?

Adult Faith Formation (AFF) is the process of ongoing conversion of adult Catholics to develop or deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through Faith Formation, the Holy Spirit transforms us in and through our fellowship with God and one another so we can become more like Jesus for others.

What is discipleship?
If faith formation is a process of transformation by the Holy Spirit in us, then discipleship is what we do in response to Jesus’ invitation to “follow Me.” By prayerfully and intentionally conforming our lives to look more like His we become the eyes, hands, feet, body and voice of Jesus Christ to the world.

We encourage you to find ways to hang out with Jesus every day through daily Bible readings, devotions, study, and prayer. Check the resources tab to make it is easier to add a few minutes with God throughout the day!

"Faith Formation is more than a subject to be taught—it is an invitation to a way of life." - Joe Paprocki

Hi! I’m Lisa.

My family and I have been members of St. John’s since 2016 when we moved here from out of state.  My husband, Ted, and I grew up in Iowa and have been married since 1995. We’ve been blessed with two sons and a daughter, and we’ve lived in four different states.

As the Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation, you might assume that I’ve been a devout Catholic all my life, but that isn’t the case.  Though I was born and raised Catholic, my Mass attendance and prayer life have varied over the years.  It wasn’t until our oldest son was preparing for his First Sacraments that I realized how little I knew about what Catholics really believe.  As a result, I made a personal commitment to grow and deepen my own faith alongside my kids.  Eventually, I learned that knowledge of our faith and a relationship with Jesus are not necessarily the same thing.

With the help of some good friends, I was able to develop a prayer life that helped transform me from being a fan of Jesus to his devoted follower and friend. But that didn’t happen overnight and it wasn’t without its challenges.  I needed friends to help get me there.  That’s why I’m so passionate about leading faith-based programs, building small group friendships, and making sure we even have a few laughs along the way.

So, whether you landed here because you are newly on fire with your faith or almost drowning in life and looking for someone to toss you a buoy, I’d love to listen to your story and help you figure out the next step in your faith journey!
