Social Concerns Committee
The mission of this group of volunteers is to create awareness of social issues affecting our society and to make programs available for the parish to act on these issues. Some of the committee's projects are serving meals at homeless shelters, distributing medical supplies and clothing to various missions and coordinating the Advent and Lent Giving Trees, which provide food and gifts at Christmas to needy families. The Thanksgiving collection helps support the work of this committee. |
Elizabeth Ministry
The Elizabeth Ministry is a program of visitation by trained women parishioners to our families who are pregnant, adopting or recently had a child. A gift bag is brought to show the parish's support for the family. Items for the gift bags such as booties and lace angels and blankets are donated. Prayers are always included in the gift bags as well.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Care and the love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is offered a final ritual before being sent along its way.
The blessing is rippled from person to person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering,
mothering God!
St. John’s Prayer Shawl Ministry meets at 6 PM on the second Thursday of each month in the
Fireplace Room. For more information contact: Ruth Holloway at 434-2145 ext 209. Back to top |
